Ah HAH

So Hillary Clinton has a dream… In it, she’s visited by 3 dead presidents.

George Washington comes to her first, and tells her “always be honest.”

Thomas Jefferson comes to her next, and tells her “the people come first.”

Lastly, Abraham Lincoln comes to her and says… “Go to the theater.”

A 7th grader got yelled at by his teacher for telling that joke after another student told a Bush joke to a round of laughter… Cute joke. 🙂

Rogue Ballerina Hunter

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of the Joss Whedon universe… Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Angel… I’m hooked.

You can imagine how when I caught this on VH1 the other day I nearly shat myself…

Yep, that’s Wesley Windham Price, otherwise known as Alexis Denisof, otherwise known as the lucky SOB who gets to shag Willow AKA Alyson Hannigan (they’re married).

How the hell’d this happen?

Had the traditional American St.Patty’s day feast of corned beef and cabbage today, also managed to flip through the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly and was pretty surprised by what I read.

A couple years back, a film version of the Clive Cussler novel – Sahara – was released. Being a fan of Cussler’s Dirk Pitt series, the moment I realized that one of my favorite novels was about to hit the big screen I was beyond excited.

While the movie was loosely based on the book (no movie completely follows any book unless we’re talking Stephen King – even then after 8 hours of a miniseries he misses a few details) I enjoyed it immensely. No campier than any Bond flick, the movie had a solid plot, superb acting, and everyone nailed their role even the guy who played Al Giordino (the stocky Italian sidekick).

So anyhow, here I am, 2 years later, hoping another Cussler adaptation is on the way when I catch this article which in short says… Sahara was a flop, Cussler hated it, and he sued the production company for butchering his story.

Dude, Raise The Titanic was shit, Sahara was gold. I can toss it in my DVD player any day of the week and watch it from start to finish. IMHO the best entertainment is often built off a tumultuous relationship – I have no idea how this movie could have flopped and I easily could have seen McConaughey pull off other stories like Dragon from the Cussler library. I’m hoping something positive comes out of this pissing match as I’m sure the franchise could only grow if these wingnuts could friggin get along.

Smallville – Promise [*****]

A fan of Smallville for the past few years, I must say that by far last nights episode was the best in the history of the series.

*SPOILERS*

Lana sets a trap for Clark so she can finally see his secret in action!
Lana realizes the truth, and plans to leave Lex at the altar!
Lionel threatens Clark’s life if Lana does not marry Lex!

I have never really been a fan of Kristin Kreuk’s acting on the show, sure she fills the role of Lana well enough but any time her mettle was tested I was left cringing. Last night made up for it, she absolutely and believably nailed the role and the situation she was forced to face… Knowing the truth about Clark, and forced to wed Lex in order to protect him – how the roles have been reversed! Still nothing said in detail about the baby or Lana’s “condition.” My guess? If memory serves, Lex had Clark’s blood and thus his DNA. Could a super-Lex be on the way, a hybrid of Clark, Lex, and Lana? Or perhaps it is simply Clark’s DNA and Lex had him cloned in this manner to learn the truth for himself without any intervention.

I’m excited to see where the series will go next, especially after this. More WWF personalities are planned for next week’s episode, I haven’t been overly thrilled by the hunt for phantom’s storyline – but if it eventually leads to Clark being trained in the ways of the Kryptonian then so be it. I’m still wondering when he’ll figure out he can fly, keeping him grounded has kept him separate from Superman – but it is inevitable, he can’t be a farm-boy forever.

Wendy’s 4-Alarm Spicy Chicken Sandwich [**—]

That’s right, 2 stars. Honestly, I’d have been better off with the standard spicy chicken sandwich. For starters, they used that ciabatta bread. I hate that crap. It’s too stiff for fast food, the simple act of biting into it squishes everything in the sandwich whereas with a standard bun you can just plow through it. Second, they relied on the jalapeno pepper for a majority of the heat. Now jalapeno peppers are very tasty by themselves, or when added in moderation to a recipe. Use too much, and what you eat essentially becomes a big jalapeno, salty, tangy, and hot. Any individual character (ie the chipotle or pepper jack flavor) gets drowned out by the jalapenos. Lastly, $7 for a SMALL? PUH-LEAZE.

My recommendation? Lose the jalapenos and kick up the heat on the sauce a bit. The individual pepper slices simply overpower the sandwich. *burp*.

Shut up and act…

It’s always bothered me when actors I respect (for their acting talent – or simply because they’re frikkin hot) open their mouth outside of a scripted role. Apparently breast cancer and global warming make Jennifer Garner cry. Ben, hold on to that one, she’s a keeper.

More Kids For Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner?

So when is Elektra 2 coming out?

Microsoft should free Office…

Microsoft Office is the market leader as far as office suites are concerned, despite its price I do not see it losing share or hurting the company the way Windows Vista appears to be at the moment. Still, there are other free applications out there, OpenOffice, Star Office, etc… attempting to make inroads into the market. That said, some people are willing to use the free or low-cost options instead of Office and accept the various quirks, differences, and incompatibilities.

I refer to the “other” office suites having quirks, differences, and incompatibilities because they are not the market leader… while popular amongst enthusiasts and cheapskates – in many ways they lack the same level of refinement offered by the Evil Empire known as Microsoft.

Competition is a good thing in that it only serves to drive innovation – with that in mind I propose that Microsoft release a version of Office 2007 that is free for personal and non-commercial use. I can’t imagine that the home market provides the crux of Microsoft’s revenue for the application suite; it would make sure that every home customer from the college student to the old fogie typing letters to the editor would have the best possible method of performing basic Office tasks. It’s not like Microsoft can’t afford the chance, after all they’ve already released a trial copy (which I use) that can be easily cracked (which I will not do, I’ll likely buy Office when the trial expires)…

So Microsoft, the onus is on you. Do you join the fray of free office suites, encouraging them to create a better product while encouraging your Office division to lessen the allure of these free alternatives? Chances are every machine would have a copy of office if Microsoft pulled this rabbit out of the hat.

~Have you been hit by a Ford… Lately~

You can call it a character flaw, well, I don’t think it is… A few weeks ago I ran into a situation – well, avoided – where a complete moron pulled directly out in front of me when I was driving down the road. While I slammed on the brakes, the roads were wet, and I didn’t have the option to go left OR right (oncoming traffic / guard rail). Both yesterday and today I had the same thing happen.

Yesterday, I’m on main street in Florida of all places, 30mph zone and fairly busy. This idiot in a Mustang is trying to parallel park his car. There’s enough room in the lane to continue on, so I do. He then gives up on parking there and nearly pulls into me as he goes around the parked car in front of him and successfully parks. I had to jerk my car into the left lane to avoid being hit. Afterwards he just hops out of his car and goes off to do his business, completely oblivious.

Driving down the road, I’m doing 55-60mph on a road with a 55mph limit, as I pass a deli some complete jackass in an Explorer pulls directly out in front of me from the left. I wasn’t going fast enough to pass him on the right before he completely entered the lane, braking may have slowed me enough but I had a line of cars behind me that I didn’t feel like catching, the left lane was clear so I dropped it into 2nd and punched the gas. Now he was doing maybe 25-30mph when I passed him, I get in front and slow down to my original speed… he proceeds to floor it and catch up to my rear bumper.

I guess the situation confused the idiot, as I’m sure he is in the habit of pulling out into traffic without concern for other drivers every day. What tailgating me accomplished beyond proving that he’s likely short a few of the key chromosomes that differentiate homo sapiens from Geico actors is unknown to me. He ended up backing off a bit once we caught slower traffic, but I doubt he learned a damned thing. If I was in the same situation, and I nearly caused a wreck by pulling in front of another car doing a mile a minute – I’d stay the fuck away from them. Maybe put my hands up in a ‘sorry’ motion. I’d admit I fucked up. Ah well, another day, another dipstick.

What a waste of life…

I’m sure everyone at this point has heard the story of the two siblings down in Jersey who took a curve too fast in the snow, wrecked, and died. Stories like this always make me wonder how the hell I made it out of my teen years alive and with a driver’s license. Maybe the extra effort my folks put in was the difference, setting an example by always wearing a seatbelt, always driving safely when the weather wasn’t great.

I’ve pulled off some pretty dick moves in my various cars and had my share of accidents. Still, when it comes to those first few years of driving – they are the most critical for a new driver. Modern driver’s education simply is not enough, sure they give you some nifty tips and make sure you can actually drive – but short of telling you what to do in a certain situation you get no real world experience. Even those pre-licensing courses, as well as drivers safety courses which work wonders on points and insurance rates aren’t adequate IMHO.

They should work out drivers licenses like they do pilot licenses. Every driver has to achieve X number of hours behind the wheel before progressing. It wouldn’t hurt to incorporate real world practice in maintaining control of a vehicle in adverse conditions either. Lastly, they should have real world night-driving tests. Some people just stink at night driving, and it makes no sense to remove the restriction simply due to age.

If more effort was put into the process by both parents, educational institutions, and the DMV – pointless wastes of life like what took place in Jersey the other day might just be avoided.
