Devotional – Revelation 4:1-4

After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, “Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.”

Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne. [a]And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald. Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white [b]robes; and they had crowns of gold on their heads.

Devotional – Revelation 4:1-4

The throne room of heaven.  Johnis called directly into the throne room of heaven by a voice bold and powerful as a trumpet blast.  He was in the Spirit, fully, to witness a glimpse of what is coming next for all who believe.

He saw One on the throne, he vividly describes the colors of the glory he sees, Jasper (red), Sardius (blood red), rainbow (a reminder of God’s covenant with Noah in Genesis 9:11-17), and emerald (green).  He sees this in the spirit, as likely no flesh could withstand such a sight!

Around the throne are 24 thrones with 24 crowned elders, representing those who have run the race and achieved victory through Christ (thus the crowns).  My mind can’t even come close to imagining what John sees here, the only word that I can think of here is “glory.”
